Our Story
University Granite was built on a simple idea — answer the phone and treat people right.
Chris Hodges graduated from Auburn University in the early 2000s with a degree in Business and spent the next 16 years as an Operations Manager at Walmart, learning what it takes to run a complex operation efficiently, manage people well, and deliver consistently for customers at scale. But like many Auburn men, he had always wanted to build something of his own.
In 2017, Chris started University Granite on his days off from Walmart. For two years he built the business evenings and weekends — learning the craft, earning customers one job at a time, and proving the concept before betting everything on it. In 2019 he walked away from a 16-year career and went all in.
What started as a small crew and outdated equipment is now East Alabama's premier custom countertop fabricator — equipped with a Park Industries SABER 5-Axis CNC Saw, Laser Products LT-2D3D digital templating, and a team of craftsmen who take the same pride in every install that Chris took in that very first job.
